Bob Caldwell, Jr., the President of Greenleaf, and his wife Sarah embarked on a life-changing mission trip to Haiti in 2011. During their visit, they came across three children who shared their heart-wrenching stories of being trapped in restavek. Although the Creole term translates to "to stay with," it actually refers to modern-day child slavery, which is still prevalent in Haiti.
As Robert, a 17-year-old restavek, recounted his traumatic experiences, he broke down in tears. Unable to continue, Bob comforted him with a warm embrace. In that moment, Robert whispered four words that would deeply impact Bob and Sarah: "Make my story matter."
Determined to make a difference, Bob and Sarah returned home and founded Greenleaf Cares. Since then, the organization has teamed up with four exceptional local and international groups to combat and break the cycle of human trafficking.
